Route description

The walk starts near Baħrija and follows rural roads and paths westwards towards the coast. The route gradually descends through open countryside before reaching the cliffside area above Blata tal-Melħ. From here, the walk continues southwards along the rugged coastline, passing exposed viewpoints, rocky paths and several scenic photo stops overlooking the sea. The trail then loops around the lower coastal section near Ras il-Qaws before turning inland again and climbing back through country tracks towards Baħrija. Along the way, the route also passes additional points of interest near the upper section before returning to the starting point. The total distance of the walk is approximately eight kilometres.

Practical advice

This route includes uneven terrain, rocky coastal paths and exposed sections close to high cliff edges, so careful footing is required throughout. Some parts of the route may involve steeper or more difficult sections, including areas where extra care is needed near ropes or narrow paths. The area offers very little shade, so drinking water, sun protection and sturdy footwear are essential. Walkers should remain on established paths, avoid unstable edges and respect any private property or restricted areas along the route. Due to the exposed terrain, longer distance and more demanding cliffside sections, this walk is best suited for experienced walkers and should not be attempted in poor weather or strong winds.
