Route description

The walk starts inland near the cart ruts viewpoint and follows rural roads and paths heading south towards Ras id-Dawwara Point. After reaching the coastal area, the route continues westwards along the cliff edge, passing panoramic viewpoints and photo spots overlooking the sea. From here, the trail follows the rugged coastline towards Miġra l-Ferħa, where the landscape becomes steeper and more dramatic, with ravines, rock formations and wide coastal views along the way. After passing the Miġra l-Ferħa area, the route turns inland and climbs through the Mtahleb countryside, following a combination of country roads and paths before returning to the starting point. The total distance of the walk is approximately eight kilometres.

Practical advice

This route includes uneven terrain, rocky coastal paths, steep sections and exposed areas close to high cliff edges, requiring careful footing throughout. The area offers very little shade, so sufficient drinking water, sun protection and sturdy footwear are essential. Some parts of the route pass near ravines and unstable cliffside terrain, and extra caution is needed, especially in windy or wet conditions. Walkers should remain on established paths, avoid restricted or private farm land and take note of any warning signs along the route. Due to the length, elevation changes and exposed terrain, this walk is best suited for experienced walkers with a good level of fitness.
