Route description
The walk starts inland near the road by the Chapel of the Nativity and follows rural tracks westwards through open countryside towards Rdum tas-Saġr. As the route approaches the coast, it passes farmland, open views and scenic stretches before reaching the cliffside area near Ras il-Qaws. From here, the walk continues southwards along rugged coastal paths towards Miġra l-Ferħa, where the landscape becomes steeper and more dramatic around the gorge and ravine. The route then turns inland and loops back through country paths and rural roads, passing through the surrounding countryside before returning to the starting point. The total distance of the walk is approximately five kilometres.
Practical advice
This route includes uneven terrain, rocky coastal paths and exposed sections close to high cliff edges, so careful footing is required throughout. The area around the gorge and ravine can be steep, loose and more challenging, especially near the lower sections and viewpoints. The route offers very little shade, making drinking water, sun protection and sturdy footwear essential. Walkers should remain on established paths, avoid unstable edges and take extra care near the cliffside terrain. Due to the exposed landscape and more demanding sections, this walk is best suited for experienced walkers and should not be attempted in poor weather or strong winds.
