Keep in mind
Keep your belongings secure and carry a small first aid kit. Always bring enough drinking water and be mindful of the sun, especially during summer, as there is little to no shade along the walks.
Check the weather before starting your walk. Choose a walk that suits your ability and stop if it becomes too challenging.
Route description
The walk starts at Ġnejna Bay and follows the coastal path westwards along the headland overlooking the bay. The route continues across rocky terrain and open coastal ground, passing viewpoints and scenic sections with wide views over the sea. As the walk progresses, it heads towards Ta’ Marija Cave, where the coastline becomes more rugged and dramatic. Along the way, there are several photo spots and viewpoints near the cliff edge and around the cave area. After reaching the Ta’ Marija section, the route loops back inland and across the headland before returning to the starting point at Ġnejna Bay. The total distance of the walk is approximately two kilometres.
Practical advice
This route includes uneven ground, rocky coastal paths and exposed cliffside sections, so careful footing is needed throughout. Some parts of the trail may be rough, narrow or more challenging, especially near the cave and along the coastal edge. The area offers little shade, so drinking water, sun protection and suitable footwear are recommended. Walkers should remain on established paths and take extra care near steep drops and loose terrain. Although the route starts near the bay, sea conditions around the cave and outer coastline can be rough, so swimming should only be considered if conditions are calm and safe. Due to the exposed terrain and cliffside sections, this walk is best suited for confident walkers and should be avoided in poor weather or strong winds.
