The Audouin’s Gull is a large Mediterranean gull with pale grey wings, greenish-grey legs and a red bill with a black band near the tip. Audouin’s Gull is found only in the Mediterranean region. It breeds mainly on offshore islands, especially in Spain, and lives almost entirely along the coast. Although once one of the world’s rarest gulls, conservation efforts have helped the population recover. Today, most birds breed in the Ebro Delta in Spain.

In Malta, the species was once very rare but is now a regular visitor in late summer, especially during August and September. Most birds seen are young gulls travelling from breeding colonies in Spain. Good places to spot them include Qawra, Għallis, and occasionally Għadira Nature Reserve.
