Boating industry
Malta has the largest ship registry in Europe and 6th in the world, making it a key player in the nautical sector. Owing to the protected nature and the depth of the Grand Harbour, these waterways created the perfect setting for marinas. Within the Grand Harbour, you can find three marinas with a whole array of boats, ranging from super yachts to sailing boats, and speed boats to the traditional fishing boats known as luzzus. The depth is also enough to welcome cruise operators to enter all the way to the Valletta Waterfront.
Further down the waterway towards Marsa, the nature of the Harbour changes from the historic, magnificent and luxurious setting to a more industrialised one. Here you can observe a variety of industries including cement silos, ship repair and building facilities, fish landing areas, bunkering facilities, cargo quays and other ship-related services.
