Check the weather before starting your walk. Choose a walk that suits your ability and stop if it becomes too challenging.

Route description

The walk starts at Għar Lapsi and follows coastal paths eastwards along the shoreline, passing rocky terrain, sea views and several scenic viewpoints along the way. As the route continues, it reaches the coastal area below the Hagar Qim side, where caves, photo spots and more rugged sections can be explored. From here, the trail loops through a combination of coastal and slightly inland paths before returning westwards towards Għar Lapsi. Along the route, there are optional detours and extra sections leading to caves, climbing areas and additional viewpoints. The walk ends back near the starting point at Għar Lapsi after covering a total distance of approximately five kilometres.

Practical advice

This route includes uneven terrain, rocky coastal paths and exposed sections close to the sea, so careful footing is needed throughout. Some parts of the route may be narrow, rough or lead to dead ends, especially around cave areas and optional detours, so walkers should stay alert and follow the main path carefully. The area offers little shade, making drinking water, sun protection and sturdy footwear essential. Extra care is needed near cliff edges, rocky drops and slippery surfaces close to the water. Due to the varied terrain and exposed coastal sections, this walk is best suited for confident walkers and should be avoided in poor weather or rough conditions.
