Keep your belongings secure and carry a small first aid kit. Always bring enough drinking water and be mindful of the sun, especially during summer, as there is little to no shade along the walks.
Check the weather before starting your walk. Choose a walk that suits your ability and stop if it becomes too challenging.

Route description

The walk starts inland near Triq Għar Ħasan and follows roads and paths southwards towards the coast. After reaching the cliffside area, the route continues eastwards along the coastline towards Għar ir-Riħ, passing viewpoints, cave entrances and striking rock formations along the way. This section follows exposed coastal paths with wide views over the sea and several scenic stops near the caves. After exploring the coastal area around the caves, the route turns westwards and continues along the shoreline towards Għar Ħasan, where more cave features and viewpoints can be seen. The final section heads inland again, following roads and paths back towards the starting point. The total distance of the walk is approximately five kilometres.

Practical advice

This route includes uneven terrain, rocky coastal paths and exposed sections close to high cliff edges, so careful footing is required throughout. Some parts near the caves can be steep, loose or slippery, especially around entrances and lower rocky sections. The area offers little to no shade, so drinking water, sun protection and suitable footwear are essential. Cave interiors may be dark, narrow and uneven and should only be entered with proper care and experience. Walkers should remain on established paths, avoid unstable edges and respect any restricted or private areas near the route. Due to the exposed terrain and cliffside sections, this walk is best suited for experienced walkers and should not be attempted in poor weather or strong winds.
