Keep in mind
Keep your belongings secure and carry a small first aid kit. Always bring enough drinking water and be mindful of the sun, especially during summer, as there is little to no shade along the walks.
Check the weather before starting your walk. Choose a walk that suits your ability and stop if it becomes too challenging.
Route description
The walk starts near Wied iż-Żurrieq and descends into Wied Babu Valley along narrow and rocky paths. As the route continues deeper into the valley, the terrain becomes steeper and more uneven, with sections that require careful footing and some climbing over rocks. The trail passes through the valley floor and follows the dramatic landscape between high valley sides and coastal cliffs. After reaching the lower part of the route, the walk climbs back out of the valley towards the upper section near the surrounding countryside and roads before returning to the starting point. The total distance of the walk is approximately three kilometres.
Practical advice
This route includes steep descents, rocky terrain and sections that require real climbing, making it more physically demanding than a standard walk. Careful footing is essential throughout, especially when entering or leaving the valley, as the paths can be uneven, loose and difficult in places. The area is exposed and offers little shade, so sturdy footwear, drinking water and sun protection are essential. Although the route reaches the coast, the sea below is rough and unsuitable for swimming. Due to the steep terrain, climbing sections and exposed surroundings, this walk is best suited for experienced walkers and should not be attempted in poor weather or slippery conditions.
